The CRA has limited the number of returns filed per computer or online account to 20 returns. To meet CRA guidelines, TurboTax desktop products include:

For those using TurboTax Basic or TurboTax Standard

  • 8 returns for net individual income over $25K ("paid returns")
  • 12 returns for net income of $25K or less ("free returns")

For those using TurboTax Premier or TurboTax Home & Business

  • 8 returns for net income of $25K or less ("free returns")
  • 12 returns for net individual income over $25K ("paid returns")

Just follow the links within your TurboTax product, select the quantity of returns you'd like to add... and purchase them. They'll be added to your product instantly - no need to reinstall. The absolute maximum number of returns you can file on one computer using TurboTax or TurboTax Online is 20.

NOTE: Buying additional tax returns will increase the number of paid returns you can file and, at the same time, decrease the number of free returns you can file.

About the CRA 20 Return Limit

The Canada Revenue Agency has limited all tax preparation software products in Canada that allow you to NETFILE1 - including TurboTax - to a maximum of 20 returns filed per computer or online account.

  • The limit applies to returns filed either electronically (by NETFILE) or in hard-copy form
  • Regardless of the number of TurboTax products you purchase, you cannot exceed the 20-return per-computer maximum

Need to Complete More Than 8 or 12 Returns?

TurboTax includes 8 returns for net income over $25K in Basic and Standard and 12 returns for net income over $25K in Premier and Home & Business. But we've got you covered if you need more.

If you need more returns for net individual income over $25K, you can buy additional returns up to the maximum of 20 if you:

  • Are preparing taxes for multiple family members, or filing multiple tax returns and know you'll need more returns
  • Are already using TurboTax this year and have used all of your available "paid returns"

Note: The maximum number of returns that you can prepare and file per computer is 20.
