No one likes to pay taxes owing to the government, but if you owe Revenu Quebec, you must pay them at the same time as the CRA – April 30th. Otherwise you will end up with interest and late penalties. There are various ways to pay your tax bill.

Paying Online

Most financial institutions offer online payments to Revenu Quebec. To pay, you must sign into your bank’s online account through the Revenu Quebec website. The following banks offer this service: Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Desjardins Group, Laurentian Bank of Canada, National Bank of Canada, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank, Tangerine Bank and Toronto-Dominion Bank.

Paying By Cheque or Money Order

If you would like to pay your Revenu Quebec tax bill by mail, you can submit a cheque or money order. Make it payable to the Minister of Revenue of Quebec and mail it to the Revenu Quebec office in Quebec City or Montreal. (click on “By Mail” – to view both addresses)

If you submit a cheque, make sure to date it correctly and sign it. Failure to do so can result in your payment being denied. As a result, you may incur late fees or interest as Revenue Quebec waits for you to submit a new payment. You should include a remittance slip with your payment. This allows Revenu Quebec to correctly apply your payment.

If you don’t have a remittance slip, you can order one by calling Revenu Quebec, or by using the online service for ordering forms and publications. If you used tax preparation software to complete your provincial return, the software should prepare a remittance slip for you, and should give you an option to print or save the slip.

Note that you should not write “final payment” in the memo line of your cheque or money order.

Paying at Your Financial Institution

In most cases, you can also pay your Revenu Quebec income tax bill in-person at your financial institution.

To do so, speak with a teller or personal banker at your financial institution and make sure that you have a remittance slip from Revenu Quebec. Then, pay your income tax bill using the funds from your chequing or savings account. Of course, you may also pay your bill using any credit card that your bank is willing to process.

Unfortunately, if you have a remittance slip that was created by tax preparation software, you cannot use it to make a payment over the counter at your financial institution. You can only use these slips if you choose to mail your payment to Revenu Quebec.
