As a resident of Quebec, you can access information about your provincial returns and a range of other services using the My Account online platform from Revenu Quebec. This service varies slightly from the online My Account service offered by the Canada Revenue Agency, but you can access similar types of information through both portals.
View Tax Data
On both the CRA’s My Account and Revenue Quebec’s My Account, you can view information about your tax return. However, on the former service, you see info related to your federal return. On the latter, you see information from your Quebec return.
You can use both online services to access information from old returns as needed to help you file your current return. Alternatively, you can simply review the information and request changes if you made a mistake.
Register for Direct Deposit
Just as you can set up direct deposit on the CRA’s My Account, you can also set up direct deposit using Revenu Quebec’s My Account.
If you are anticipating a refund from Revenu Quebec or if you receive advancement credits from the Work Premium, the Work Premium Supplement, the child care credit or any other credits, direct deposit can help you get these payments faster.
Change Personal Details
Using Quebec’s My Account service, you can change your address and phone number online. This helps you avoid missing any mailed notices or calls from Revenu Quebec.
It’s important to note that if you update this information using Quebec’s My Account, you only update your Revenu Quebec file. To change your information with the CRA, you need to also use the CRA’s My Account service.
Authorize a Representative
You can authorize a representative to use your CRA or Revenu Quebec My Account online service on your behalf. Both services offer more than one level of representation.
For example, you can name representatives who can only view your information and make certain changes, but you can also grant a representative power of attorney to allow him to use the account on your behalf. However, it’s important to note that the exact list of tasks each representative is allowed to handle varies based on whether you are using the CRA’s or Revenue Quebec’s service.
You can also revoke authorized representatives using both My Account services.
Make Requests Related to Social Programs
If you want to make a request related to a social program in Quebec, you can do so using the My Account online service from Revenu Quebec. Similarly, using the CRA’s My Account, you can also track information related to benefit payments and account balances.
Track Accelerated Returns
In Quebec, you can apply for accelerated returns and check on their status using Quebec’s My Account online service. An accelerated return essentially means that Quebec Revenu sends you your refund before processing your return.
You can also use the CRA’s My Account to check on information related to refunds and return processing. However, you cannot check on accelerated refunds as they are not offered by the CRA.
