Not to be confused with a My Service Canada account (for pensioners and employment insurance recipients) or My Business account (for business owners), your CRA My Account has a unique registration process. Completed registration includes the following steps:

  • Initial sign up using personal data including date of birth, postal code, social insurance number and a selected line number from a previous tax return.
  • Receipt and entry of a unique 8 digit security code which is sent via Canada Post by CRA after initial sign up is completed.

If you are unsure of your registration status, you have options.

Try logging in to your CRA My Account. The system will immediately inform you if your username or password is incorrect. Note that after five incorrect tries, your account will be locked out and you must contract CRA directly for assistance.

If you believe the username is correct but the password is not, you can retrieve your password.

If you have forgotten your username, you will need to re-register as a new user.
