If you are a parent, consider filing your tax return even if you do not have a balance owing or refund coming. The government provides benefit programs for families to help with the cost of raising your children, and you do not have to have any taxable income to claim them. The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) and Child Disability Benefit (CDB) are two non-taxable benefits paid monthly to eligible families. You may also be eligible for the GST/HST Credit based on your family status and income.

As both you and your spouse (if applicable) need to file your tax returns to keep your benefit payments active, why not try filing for free with TurboTax Online Free, a no-charge edition of our software? Or, you can start your return using Free, and if you feel the need for additional assistance, you can upgrade to any of our paid editions or even get Live help from an expert.
