Authorize My Representative allows elderly taxpayers and parents to give consent to a close friend or family member to contact the Canada Revenue Agency on their behalf. This would allow the designated individual to contact CRA online, by telephone, in person or in writing.

Seniors often need assistance with preparation of their tax returns and benefits, and this access is a great help. Seniors can grant access at two different levels. At level 1, the CRA may disclose information only. At level 2, the representative can make changes to or update information.

Authorizing a representative is easy using CRA’s My Account service. In addition to the initial sign up, you can use your CRA My Account to instantly change the level of authorization granted, choose a different representative, or revoke authorization completely.
