If you live and work in Alberta, you have specific tax credits you can claim. These include the Family Employment Tax Credit, the Alberta Child Health Benefit for low- to middle-income parents, and the Age Amount for seniors.

Family Employment Tax Credit

This tax credit is aimed at giving a tax break to low- to middle-income working families with children by providing an incentive for parents to continue to work. Your eligibility is based on your application for the Canada Child Benefit.

To qualify for this tax credit, you must meet the following criteria:

  • you must be a resident of Alberta for at least one month,
  • you must be the parent of a child under 18 years old,
  • you must have over $2,760 in annual family working income and a family net income below:
  • $63,327 if your family has one child,

  • $92,477 for three children,
  • or $96,102 for four or more children.

Alberta Child Health Benefit

If your family is low- to middle-income and you live in Alberta, you may qualify for the Alberta Child Health Benefit. This tax benefit is designed to help parents with children pay for eyeglasses, prescriptions, and visits to the dentist that are not covered by standard Alberta Health Care Insurance.

To be eligible, your child must be 18 years of age or under (age 19, if your child still lives at home and is currently enrolled in high school). It is free to sign up for this program.
