Where does the imported data come from?
Your personal tax data is housed in your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) My Account. My Account is a secure portal that lets you view your personal income tax and benefit information and manage your tax affairs online.
Where does the data in my CRA My Account come from?
Your current year information such as Tax Information Slips (T-Slips) and Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) Contributions comes directly from the issuer. For example, when your employer sends you your T4 – Statement of Renumeration, they also send a copy to the CRA. These slips are sorted by your Social Insurance Number (SIN) and then stored in your CRA My Account. Other information such as Tuition Carry Forward Amounts and RRSP Contribution Limits are determined by previous years’ tax returns. Along with printing this information on your Notice of Assessment (NOA), CRA also stores it in your CRA My Account.
I don’t have a CRA My Account. Can I use Auto-fill my return?
No, because the information imported originates in your CRA My Account, you must have an account to use this feature. If you don’t already have a CRA My Account, sign up or learn more about registering.
Is my data secure?
