Electronic Mailing Lists

To help taxpayers stay up-to-date about important information, the Canada Revenue Agency offers electronic mailing lists. Through this program, you can sign up to receive information on a range of topics whenever the CRA’s website is updated. Additionally, you can order RSS feeds on certain topics. Learn more about the type of information available and how to subscribe.

Types of Mailing Lists

The CRA has electronic mailing lists devoted to business tax information, charities and electronic filing. It also has a list about benefits, including the Canada Child Benefit and the Working Income Tax Benefit. There are also lists for GST/HST, excise, or payroll tax news designed just for business owners.

For example, if you are a tax preparer or just love details, you may want to sign up for a list notifying you every time the CRA updates its excise publications, tax folios or similar documents. You can also sign up for reminders about quarterly instalments or tax information newsletters.

Finally, there are special lists for registered plan administrators, and people who work in the realm of scientific research and experimental development.

Subscribing

To subscribe to one of the CRA’s electronic mailing lists, visit the CRA’s website and click on the name of the list you to which you want to subscribe.

Once you provide your email address, the CRA will send you an email to verify your address. Respond to the initial email using the included instructions. Next, wait for a second confirmation email.

Once you receive the second email, you are subscribed. Then, you must repeat this process for every list that you want to subscribe to.

If you decide you want to unsubscribe in the future, follow the instructions found at the bottom of every email you receive.

RSS Feeds

The CRA also offers information through RSS feeds. The abbreviation of Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication, RSS feeds provide you with a link whenever certain websites are updated.

When you subscribe to an RSS feed, you don’t have to give the CRA your email address. Instead, you can use a browser that supports RSS feeds, or you can download a free feed reader or a news aggregator.

The CRA offers RSS feeds for businesses and individuals who want notifications every time the CRA website is updated with news, tips, local events or other information.

The CRA also has RSS feeds devoted to charities, the CRA newsroom, recently added forms and publications, GST/HST, and excise tax news.

Privacy Assurance

When you subscribe to one of the CRA’s electronic mailing lists, you don’t have to worry about your privacy being compromised. The CRA does not share email addresses and does not track who subscribes to which list.

Note that this informational service is offered independently of your income tax return. Accordingly, the lists you subscribe to have no affect on how your return is reviewed.
