What is the T4RSP tax form?
When you withdraw money from an RRSP, the administrator of the RRSP has to fill out a T4RSP slip to indicate the amount of the withdrawal and the income tax that you paid on that amount. Québec residents receive a Relevé 2.
Does the form show only RRSP withdrawals?
No. For example; if you withdrew money from an RRSP under the Lifelong Learning Plan, you had to use tax form RC96 to request the money and the amount you withdrew will be indicated in box 25 of the T4RSP.
If you took out the money from an RRSP under the Home Buyers’ Plan, you used the T1036 tax form to request the money and the amount you withdrew will be indicated in box 27 of the T4RSP.
What about transfers after the breakdown of a marriage or partnership?
The form indicates the amount transferred from an RRSP to the other spouse or partner under a court judgment or written agreement.
Is there a separate form for RRIFs?
Yes, the T4RIF tax form indicates withdrawals from a Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF), as well as a LIF, an LRIF, and a PRIF account. Québec residents receive a Relevé 2. For more details, please refer to the T4RSP and T4RIF guide.
