Tax Tip: Claim Child and Family Benefits

If you are a parent, consider filing your tax return even if you do not have a balance owing. The government offers refundable tax credits for families to help with the cost of raising your children, and you do not have to have any taxable income to claim them. The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a non-taxable benefit paid monthly to eligible families. The amount you receive is based on your family’s adjusted net income. Starting in July 2019, you can claim up to $6,639 a year per child under age 6 and up to $5,602 a year for children between the ages of 6 and 17.
